Your phone number should be one tap, not a copy and paste

CloudBuilder AI · 1 min read

Most of your visitors are on a phone. If tapping the number doesn't start a call, they have to copy it and dial by hand, and some won't bother.

The one-line fix

A phone number becomes tappable with a single piece of link code around it. That's the entire mechanism. Many sites still don't have it: in the automated homepage checks our tool ran on salon websites in 2026, roughly half had no tappable call button at all. Yours may already have one, and the free check will say so.

Why it gets missed

On a desktop screen, where sites get built and approved, a tappable number looks identical to a plain one. The gap is invisible in a desktop review, but most customers visit on a phone.

What fixing it involves

Marking up the number correctly wherever it appears, and ideally making it a visible call button near the top of the mobile page. Our $40 tune-up checks whether this is set up correctly and tells you exactly what to fix. It's standard on every site we build from scratch.

Common questions

Does this affect desktop visitors?
On a desktop the number simply behaves as before, or opens a calling app if the visitor has one. There is no downside.
Can I track how many people tap it?
Yes, with analytics configured, taps on the number can be counted, which turns the site's phone leads into a real number you can watch.
